Linkwood Speyside WhiskyOwner: Region/district: Diageo Speyside Founded: Status: Capacity: 1821 Active 3 500 000 litres Address: Elgin, Morayshire IV30 3RD Tel: website: 01343 862000 www.malts.com History: 1821 – Peter Brown founds the distillery. 1868 – Peter Brown passes away and his son William inherits the distillery. 1872 – William demolishes the distillery and builds a new one. 1897 – Linkwood Glenlivet Distillery Company Ltd takes over operations. 1902 – Innes Cameron, a whisky trader from Elgin, joins the Board and eventually becomes the major shareholder and Director. 1932 – Innes Cameron dies and Scottish Malt Distillers takes over in 1933. 1962 – Major refurbishment takes place. 1971 – The two stills are increased by four. Technically, the four new stills belong to a new distillery sometimes referred to as Linkwood B. 1985 – Linkwood A (the two original stills) closes. 1990 – Linkwood A is in production again for a few months each year. 2002 – A 26 year old from 1975 is launched as a Rare Malt. 2005 – A 30 year old from 1974 is launched as a Rare Malt. 2008 – Three different wood finishes (all 26 year old) are released. 2009 – A Manager´s Choice 1996 is released.
