History:

1826 – James Gordon and Peter Weir found the first Aberlour Distillery.

1827 – Peter Weir withdraws and James Gordon continues alone. 

1879 – A fire devastates most of the distillery. The local banker James Fleming constructs a new distillery a few kilometres upstream the Spey river.  

1892 – The distillery is sold to Robert Thorne & Sons Ltd who expands it. 

1898 – Another fire rages and almost totally destroys the distillery. The architect Charles Doig is called in to design the new facilities. 

1921 – Robert Thorne & Sons Ltd sells Aberlour to a brewery, W. H. Holt & Sons. 

1945 – S. Campbell & Sons Ltd buys the distillery. 

1962 – Aberlour terminates floor malting. 

1973 – Number of stills are increased from two to four. 

1975 – Pernod Ricard buys Campbell Distilleries. 

2000 – Aberlour a´bunadh is launched. A limited 30 year old cask strength is released. 

2001 – Pernod Ricard buys Chivas Brothers from Seagrams and merges Chivas Brothers and Campbell Distilleries under the brand Chivas Brothers. 

2002 – A new, modernized visitor centre is inaugurated in August. 

2008 – The 18 year old is also introduced outside France.
